Texas Rangers: Texas Rangers winter league report

A look at the Texas Rangers’ players participating in the Dominican Republic winter league:

+ OF Drew Robinson joined Gigantes del Cibao on Friday and went 3 for 8 with three strikeouts in his first two games. Robinson hit .183 with a .582 OPS and 57 strikeouts in 109 at-bats with the Rangers last season.

+ OF Scott Heineman, with Escogido, is tied for the league lead in RBIs with 15.

Heineman is up to 549 at-bats overall in the Rangers’ system and with Escogido, and the workload may be catching up to him. He was in a 4-for-33 slump before getting two hits on Sunday.

+ RHP Chi Chi Gonzalez, the Rangers’ first-round draft choice in the 2013 draft, has allowed only one unearned run and nine hits for 15 1/3 innings in his last three starts with Licey. Gonzalez is a minor-league free agent, and the Rangers are interested in keeping him after investing in his rehabilitation from Tommy John surgery.
