Ben Cutting dropped Melbourne batsman Marcus Harris through his fingers and into his face in a bizarre moment in the Big Bash clash between the Heat and the Renegades.

Test star Harris skied one early in his innings and Cutting managed to get his hands to the ball, before it slipped through his grasp and collected him in the face.

The ball gave Cutting a nasty cut and to add insult to injury, the umpires deemed the ball was not in his hands a sufficient enough amount of time to deem it a fair catch.

Harris refused to go and he was rewarded by the umpires, who ruled in favour of the Renegades opener.

Cutting received treatment and got five stitches for the cut, but his pride would be hurt more than his face, after he made a meal of the attempted catch.

“He looked pretty rattled, so hopefully he is ok,” Harris said of Cutting.

“He had a bit of claret coming out of him the poor fella.”

Cutting returned to the action later in the match and Mark Waugh marvelled at the repair work on his face.

“You can’t even see where he got hit,” Waugh said.

“They have done a great job stitching him up.”
