Le’Veon Bell didn’t play a snap for the Steelers in 2018, but he will still be a hot commodity for these five NFL teams in free agency.
The fact that Le’Veon Bell took all of last season off was a big negative for the Steelers. On the flip side, it’s a giant positive for teams that are interested in making him their starting running back in 2019.
His free agency is still relatively new ground for the league. The list of players who have taken an entire season off due to non-injury reasons is pretty short. Don’t expect Bell’s choice to stay away from the Steelers due to his contract issues to suppress his value though. Teams in need of a dynamic weapon in the backfield won’t hesitate to offer Bell a respectable deal.
He’s not a great fit for every scheme, but teams that want to throw the ball to their running backs will be particularly intrigued. Read on to discover five teams that should make a big play for the former All-Pro.
5. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Ideally, Bell would move to a team capable of making the Super Bowl next season. The Buccaneers aren’t a threat to hoist the Lombardi Trophy in 2020, but they could really use a dynamic running back.
Forgive us if we’re not impressed with the combination of Peyton Barber, Ronald Jones and Jacquizz Rodgers. Barber isn’t dynamic enough to play every down. Jones suffered through an atrocious rookie campaign. Rodgers is entirely too small to be anything more than a third down back.
Adding Bell to the mix would elevate Tampa Bay’s offense from dangerous to absolutely lethal. He’d be a terrific safety valve for Jameis Winston. The ability to check the ball down to Bell instead of forcing the ball into coverage could drastically improve the quarterback’s ball security.
